As of now we have about 21 readers who are mostly Chinese youth. A lot of them have a background in Buddhism, but some claim to be free thinkers. 2 of the Readers are named Yakun and Yanan. We have actually got to spend several hours with these girls throughout the week, and so our relationship was such that we were able to have an open conversation about Jesus and what he did for us on the cross. It was so awesome! After reading about the birth of Jesus, Yakun asked me "Do you believe that Jesus really lived? How do we know that he lived?" I then gave my personal testimony, and some evidence that supports that Jesus did live on earth. I talked about what he did on the cross, and how he rose three days later, and how he offered freedom from sins for all mankind. Yakun said in reply, "Well, I respect people who have religions like, Buddhist, Muslims, and Hindus, and Christians, but I don't have a belief.... I need to see it to believe it." Our conversation went a little further, but I felt the need to turn back to the text. Yanan said she really liked the story of Mary and the birth of Jesus. She had never really heard it before.
Yakun and Yanan also brought a friend... His name is Michael and he has no religion. He enjoyed reading with David so much that he signed up for wed-fri as well as Sunday.
Please keep Yakun, Yanan, Michael and the rest of the readers in your prayers.
